We have a highly successful longstanding relationship with The University of East Anglia for both School Direct and their PGCE students.

As a teacher trained in partnership with UEA you will have excellent career opportunities in education. A major characteristic of UEA teacher training programmes is that teaching is informed by research, so as well as gaining plenty of classroom experience you will be in touch with leading research and thinking about how to teach your subject. The quality of UEA subject-specific training is outstanding, and the professional development programme is uniquely strong. UEA tutors are all experienced and successful teachers who are knowledgeable in their field.
Our partnership schools are all excellent schools, who have a specific interest in teacher training and career development. Our school mentors are second to none, supportive at all times and have the appropriate skill set and experience to guide you through your training.
In their last inspection UEA received commendation for the ‘particularly strong relationships between the university and partner schools, as evidenced by the extensive involvement of school-based staff in training, their attendance at mentor training and at partnership meetings’ (Ofsted, 2014).
UEA offers personal and professional development (PD) training to all trainees, with each PD group having a named tutor. UEA`s commitment to trainees’ pastoral care and wellbeing is reflected in the ‘excellent pastoral care’ provided by our ’dedicated’ team of tutors (external examiner, 2017).
Our UEA School Direct students receive support in making job applications and employment prospects are very good. UEA PGCE programmes have consistently received high endorsement from OFSTED inspectors.
You will study for a one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education with an additional award of 90 Master's credits – PGCE(M). The course will lead to you gaining qualified teacher status (QTS). As a School Direct trainee you will study alongside and follow the same programme as our Provider-led PGCE(M) students.
During your course you will spend approximately two thirds of your time in school working alongside experienced teachers to develop your practice. Schools who have chosen to participate in the School Direct programme have carefully selected mentors who will help shape your training. Mentors will work alongside academic tutors at UEA to help you realise your potential as a reflective practitioner and fulfil your aspirations to become an outstanding newly qualified teacher. For the remaining third of the course you will spend time working with academic staff and peers at UEA to develop subject-specific pedagogy and explore areas of professional development.
All School Direct trainees undertaking their Initial Teacher Education with UEA will be fully registered students of the University. This means that not only will they receive the highest quality training from experienced staff within a well-established partnership with schools, but they will have full access to a range of University resources including library facilities, electronic resources, support and welfare services and the Sportspark.
It is worth noting that the external examiners for the PGCE programmes have consistently commented that the University's partnership with schools is exemplary and that they consider UEA`s partnership approach to Initial Teacher Education as one of their strengths.

Financial Information
Trainees pay a course fee to study on the course. Most of our secondary trainees are eligible to receive a bursary based on subject and degree level, and maintenance loans and maintenance grants may also be available.

Entry Requirements
- Degree classification of 2:2 or above (Please note a 2:1 is required for the Physical Education training programme)
- Degree must be in related academic subject area
- Some school experience (e.g. observation) prior to applying to the course is highly desirable but not essential.
- Grade C or above in GCSE English and Mathematics.
- Successful completion of both QTS skills tests before the start of the course http://sta.education.gov.uk/
- Successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check to verify their capability of working with young people.
