Secondary

Transition to High School

Welcome

Making the move from primary to secondary education is an exciting milestone in your child’s journey. At Litcham School, we work hard to ensure the transition is smooth, enjoyable, and supportive, helping every student feel prepared and confident as they begin their time with us.

What to Expect During the Transition Process

Getting to Know Your Child

  • All students will be asked to complete an All About Me Booklet during the summer term.
  • This helps us understand your child’s interests, strengths, and personality, so we can support them from day one.

Working With Primary Schools

We collaborate closely with our feeder primary schools by:

  • Gathering key information about each pupil
  • Visiting as many primary schools as possible to meet students
  • Speaking directly with class teachers to ensure continuity
  • Offering additional meet-ups for pupils from outlying schools who may not know other students

These sessions help children start forming friendships ahead of joining us in July.

Support for Students With SEND

  • Our SENDCo works one to one with key staff in each primary school to gain a full understanding of any additional needs.
  • Either our SENDCo or Assistant SENDCo will offer to attend your child’s next EHCP review if it takes place during the summer term.
  • We work one to one with SEND families who would like additional support, helping us gain a deeper understanding of your child before they start in September.
  • We offer two additional transition afternoons for our SEND pupils. Details for these will be communicated directly with families and primary schools.
  • Families are welcome to request an additional tour of the school, as navigating the site is often a common worry for students.

Induction & Meet the Tutor Evening - Tuesday 19th May at 6.30pm

  • Meet your child’s tutor
  • Ask questions or discuss any concerns
  • Receive key information about starting school
  • View our school uniform and ask practical questions

Transition Days - Monday 13th July & Tuesday 14th July

  • Each tutor group will have assigned Year 7 buddies, who will guide pupils to each lesson to ensure they do not get lost
  • Experience life at Litcham School
  • Explore the school environment
  • Meet teachers and future classmates
  • Build confidence ahead of the new term
