The Library

Secondary library 1 (Large)The School Library and Reading

A life-long love of books and reading for pleasure is actively encouraged at Litcham School and both phases have an up-to-date, and well-stocked library, which is overseen by our full-time, dedicated librarian.

Primary Phase

The Primary library holds a wide range of picture, fiction and non-fiction books covering all subject areas, which are regularly used for lessons and small group work in support of the curriculum. We have an enthusiastic team of Year 6 pupil librarians, who assist with the smooth running of the library at breaks and lunchtime.

Each year we have a visit from the Norfolk School Library Service mobile library. All students have the opportunity to select a book of their choice, which is kept in the school library for 12 months.

Secondary Phase

The Secondary phase library, situated in the heart of the school, is open throughout the school day from 8.30 am until 4.00pm. All students have a lesson in the library once a fortnight. Students are welcomed at break and lunchtimes, where help and advice is always on hand regarding appropriate reading choices. Students may borrow up to two books at a time.  There is a large range of fiction and non-fiction books to suit all ages, interests and reading abilities, as well as a selection of newspapers and magazines, which can be used during lessons and break times. E-readers, audio books and DVDs are also available for loan.

We use an on-line library management system called MLS, and students may access our library catalogue on the internet, both at home and at school, to view the resources available, reserve books, write book reviews and to search for authors.

There are seven computers and ten tablets, which may be booked for lessons throughout the day or used by students during break and lunch times for homework/independent study.

We have a small, but dedicated team of student librarians, who are trained in the daily management of the library and are always at hand to help to recommend books that they’ve enjoyed reading.

Accelerated Reader

All students in years 5, 6, 7 and 8 are enrolled on the Accelerated Reader Programme. This system enables students to test their understanding of the books that they have read through interactive quizzes.  Based on the results, it will recommend a wide range of books, at an appropriate level, to consolidate and develop their individual reading ability. The programme promotes the development of confident readers, by building on reading comprehension skills, widening vocabulary and broadening their reading horizons.  It enables teachers to monitor both the quantity and quality of reading practice undertaken by the students.

Our Schools

Synergy Multi-Academy Trust comprises fifteen Norfolk schools serving children between the ages of 2 and 18. Our schools work collaboratively together to raise standards and provide education of the highest possible standard, offering the best of opportunities for pupils. The Trust was initially established in 2015. We believe that all of our schools have strengths and areas to develop, and that all can improve through sharing expertise and wisdom. The Trust understands that there will be excellent practice in each school, and that every school will be able to contribute to the development of the Trust as a whole.
