Our School
They carry out talks and interactive writing workshops with our students to help promote reading for pleasure and develop creative writing skills. These have always proved extremely popular with the children as they provide a rare opportunity to talk with real-life authors.
Recent visitors to the school have included:
We are extremely lucky to have our very own ‘Author in Residence’, Helen Moss - a scheme kindly financed, in part, by the Rotary Club of Swaffham. Helen is the writer and creator of the ‘Time Dogs’, ‘Island Adventure’ and ‘Secrets of the Tombs’ series of books. More recently she has collaborated with other top crime writers to publish a collection of short stories called ‘Mystery and Mayhem’. All her books are available in the school library and prove very popular with our students.
As ‘Author in Residence’, Helen regularly visits both phases of the school to carry out interactive workshops with students that encourage creative writing skills and promote reading. Helen regularly interacts, with both pupils and parents, via the school library blog called ‘Books and Beyond’. She’ll also read students’ work resulting from her workshops at the school and has posted some of these pieces on her own website (www.helenmoss.org.uk).
In 2017, Helen worked with students to help produce our very own anthology of short stories called ‘A Thread Running Through’. Written, illustrated and edited by secondary phase pupils, the book was printed and sold to raise funds for the Litcham School Sports Pavilion Charity, in memory of Sam Alger.
