Our School
Our School
A fortnightly reading club is held in the library at lunchtime, which is open to all students in Years 7, 8 & 9. Over drinks and biscuits, we debate and discuss our thoughts and opinions on the books that we are reading as a group, and share our recommendations. It is a great way to meet students from other year groups who love reading and an opportunity to try different books and authors that you might not normally choose to read.
The Carnegie Medal is an annual award given to an author for the most outstanding piece of children’s literature. Nominated by librarians, the short-listed titles are announced in March and the winner in late June.
Each year, alongside other schools across the country, we shadow the Carnegie Book Award by reading the short-listed titles prior to the announcement of the winner. We meet with other schools in the area to discuss and debate our thoughts on the books, play games and activities and vote for our favourite title.
